Realme Buds 2 Detailed Review with Pros and Cons

All major flagships in 2019 have ditched the 3.5mm audio jack, but the good old jack continues to be a relevant option for affordable and mid-range phones, laptops, and other such devices.

Realme recently launched the second iteration of its wired buds, the Realme Buds 2.0, and Rs’ price. 599 these should be readily accessible to young Indian consumers who are looking for value-centric products. These is best earphones under 600

The first-generation buds that launched late last year were even cheaper but they didn’t sound very great.

Expanding the portfolio, the company has now launched the second iteration of its wired earphones, the Realme Buds 2, which offers additional features, better build quality, and improved audio output while keeping the price in the same ballpark. Let’s take a look at what this new pair of earphones offers:

Design and build quality

Realme Buds 2

The second-generation Realme Buds 2.0 certainly looks the part. Irrespective of the price tag attached to them, the quality of cable materials here doesn’t feel cheap or shoddy.

The earphones are primarily made of plastic with a tinge of magnets in the butt. the magnets ensure that the buds stay secure in place when they are looped around your neck and not in use.

Realme Buds 2 has a great build quality, especially considering the price tag of Rs 599.

The earphones use a 3.55 mm jack and have your regular three-button remote with a microphone that allows you to answer calls and change songs on your smartphone.

But where it gets even better is the Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU)-braided cable below the Y-splitter which should give it additional durability.

There is also a yellow rubber clip to help you keep the cables in an organized manner.

The earbuds have a magnetic casing that allows you to hang it around your neck when idle.

The earbuds feel comfortable and fit nicely. And even if it doesn’t, you have some additional silicon earbuds in the box.

Take your pick. Look-wise, the earbuds’ yellow-and-black color scheme is classic. And it’s not just the earbuds.

Realme has taken great care of the product’s packaging, and it shows during the unpacking.

These traditional earphones from Realme have a 3.5mm connector and in-line remote with mic and controls.

The cable itself is in two parts. Above the Y-splitter it is made of rubber with ridges pattern while the bottom half is braided (fabric-wrapped) cable.

Realme seems to have put in an effort to ensure a tangle-free design. These buds also include a rubber strap to keep cable tied up while packing.

And more importantly, they fit really well! The buds are properly angled in a way that they feel comfortable and offer good passive noise isolation. The wing ensures they do slip out of the ears during movement.

Both ear tips and wings are made of soft rubber and proved to be extremely comfortable even when we used them for hours. All in all, we are quite content with the Realme Buds 2 design, built and fit.

Controls and calling

Realme Buds 2

As we mentioned before, the Realme Buds 2 has an in-line remote control also including microphones for making calls.

Remote has the volume up and down buttons highlighted with yellow markings.

A multi-purpose button is sandwiched between the two-volume adjustment keys.

The key at the center can be used for play or pause and changing tracks and attending or disconnecting calls.

During the testing phase, we answered and made several calls using the Buds 2.

We had no trouble hearing what the caller had to say. Similarly, our replies too were loud and clear.

The microphone faces trouble picking a clean voice in the noisy surroundings, but that’s to be expected when considering earphones under 1000.

Performance

Realme Buds 2

The earbuds have two 11.2 mm drivers, each with 32ohm impedance rating and 108dB sensitivity rating.

True to its tagline ‘feel the real bass’, the earphones has an elevated bass response, sometimes to the point of being overpowering.

I doubt you’ll ever need to crank it up to the top volume. Despite that, the overall sound output is quite crisp and clean at all levels with sharp vocals.

The passive noise cancellation facility isn’t just a buzzword and you can actually rely on the earbuds to help you through a crowded commute.

However, there’s a fair bit of cable noise. Another issue that my voice wasn’t always clear enough to the person on the other end when I used the mic for calls.

Verdict

Despite a few issues, Realme Buds 2 does most of the things rights.

Its TPU-braided cable, magnetic feature, and even the overall sound quality are definitely of the breed of those found in earbuds priced at the higher end of the price range. At Rs 599, the Realme Buds 2 are a steal and make a great buy.

Realme has been quite successful in its short India journey. We are glad that the brand is now expanding its efforts to audio peripherals with the same aggression.

The Realme Buds 2 (and even Wireless Buds) come at a killer price.

These earphones offer good built, have a great fit, and reasonably good sound quality with some punchy bass and clear vocals.

That’s indeed more than what you can expect at Rs. 699 and thus the Realme 2 Buds make for a strong recommendation.

Earlier this year, Realme decided to bet on an otherwise fading world of wired earbuds and introduced the Realme Buds.
